Who am I?
Just like the subtitle says, I’m a late-20’s IT nerd / volleyball junkie / semi-professional drinker. Basically this translates to a computer nerd who plays a lot of volleyball (beach and indoor) and doesn’t mind a drink or seven with mates.
What’s with “Visa”?
It’s a nickname. I got it from the QUT Uni Games crowd and honestly, none of us can really remember exactly what it means. We think it’s got something to do with whatever the Visa slogan was in Australia at the time. Whenever it changes, the message seems to fit the joke anyway. At the time of writing, I think the Visa slogan is, “Anywhere, Anytime, Anyhow”. You get the idea.
What do I do?
Professionally, I’m a CIO and software developer for a finance company in Brisbane. I write in C# currently, but am adept at VB.Net, PHP, and have experience in many other languages. I’m trying to learn Ruby but with no friends who know it, it’s tricky! I’ve mainly used SQL Server databases, but I’ve touched MySQL and I’m using a fair bit of Oracle at the moment as well.
Socially, I’m one of those “butterflies” you hear about. I have a number of different disconnected groups of friends, and the only way they’re similar is probably based on alcohol. I also have an awesome girlfriend at the moment, but that’s none of your business
